Caritas International Belgium Strengthening of socio-economic inclusion of communities through the professionalization of agriculture & rural tourism sector

Objective

To develop a more sustainable socio-economic environment in the agricultural sector and promotion of rural tourism of northern Kosovo.

Context

Despite recent improvements, minority communities in Kosovo continue to live with fewer employment possibilities and inadequate access to public services. The underdeveloped nature of Kosovo’s economy characterized by high unemployment rate, though felt by all communities, is more acutely experienced by isolated minority communities.

Caritas International’s goal is to support a multiethnic Kosovo through creating better living conditions for the communities, who are more vulnerable to the employment market and are mainly living in remote rural areas.

We will offer a tailored made assistance package for small scale businesses in North Kosovo region. Caritas provides targeted micro-business packages, which have good prospects to generate incomes and encourage self-employment in minority rural areas. Our team provides technical assistance to individuals but also to associations to upgrade their professional skills. These activities concern the whole community in the area with the hope of connecting all inhabitants by sharing their common economic interests and thus overcoming the past.

Beneficiaries

This project provides 4 agri-business packages to 20 SMAE’s, especially Farmer’s Associations and Individual Farmers. We provide technical and vocational training as well as organizational and Management services to 200 farmers associations and individual farmers. In order to support market linkages and collaboration between beneficiaries, we will organize 4 multi-ethnic regional study visits.
