Objective

Assist 8 local communities affected by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) by increasing their resilience against any future catastrophe. During the first phase of the project, we have improved and diversified their living conditions and their income generating activities.

CONTEXT

This project is a continuation of the work set up in partnership with communities affected by Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). This second phase aims to assess, analyze, plan, and take action to minimize the impact of natural disasters in this area for the future. The project is divided into three main objectives:

1. Strengthening livelihoods and diversifying access to markets. For example: 25 organizations have together created income generating activities for their members, increasing 25% of household incomes.

2. Reducing the community’s vulnerability to natural disasters and increasing resilience in strengthening the management and operation of environmental services and buffer zones.

3. Creating inter-town/villages connections to strengthen the resilience of other barangay, particularly through the creation of DRR forums (200 participants’ households).

Beneficiaries

This project has directly reached out to more than 2,200 households in the 8 barangays (equivalent to a village) within the municipality of Guiuan in Eastern Samar. Indirectly, around 10.000 persons in the selected zones benefited from our DRR (Disaster Risk Reduction) programme.
